Sports rafting close to the Pyrénées-Orientales
On the most committed part of the Aude river, downstream ofAxat, are the magnificent Pierre-Lys gorges, offering breathtaking canyons. This wild setting is ideal for sport level rafting descent, with its vertiginous cliffs and great rapids.
La 7 km long rafting descent is intended for amateur or experienced athletes. Ce sport level course is made up of a succession of rapids of different classes, the difficulty of which increases.
The first kilometers are relatively calm, with the crossing of the charming village of Saint-Martin-Lys. Then, on the second part of the descent, a series of class II, III and IV fast owls.
The thrill seekers will be delighted to hurtle down these whitewater rapids and feel the adrenaline of this sporting activity in the heart of nature.

Sports rafting: Outdoor Nature prices
These prices include:
- The framing provided by state-certified guides.
- All the specific material and necessary for safe rafting practice.
- Le shuttle transportation to reach the start of the activity and to return to the raft base in Axat.
- The provident insurance for the supervised practice of rafting (professional civil liability)
- A €1 fee donated directly to EDF, which manages the dam feeding the river on which we practice the activity.

Sports rafting outing: practical information
Who is the game for?
The course sport rafting is made up of class II, III and IV rapids.
This is the ideal exit for amateur or experienced athletes ages 12 and up, in search of unique sensations in a wild environment.
Prerequisites : know how to swim 25 meters and immerse yourself without fear.
How long does the activity last?
The sporting course lasts :
- 30 minutes of reception, equipment and shuttle to the start of the course.
- 1h15 rafting descent
- 15 minutes of debriefing and return shuttle.

What equipment is provided?
All the equipment necessary to practice rafting in optimal conditions of comfort and safety is provided to you:
- Suit neoprene
- Helmet specifically designed for rafting
- Life jacket
- Raft : inflatable boat
- paddles
All this equipment is CE approved and checked daily.
What equipment should be provided?
- A swimsuit
- A pair of sports shoes
- A towel
- A small snack and a bottle of water to consume when you return from the activity
What is the meeting place?
Go directly to Axat, in the Sud Rafting car park, to pick up your equipment and meet your guide.
You will then go by shuttle to the start of your route.
Axat is located in the Aude department (11), just on the other side of the Pyrénées-Orientales border, at:
- 1 hour from Perpignan and Barcarès.
- 1h15 from Argelès-sur-Mer, Saint-Cyprien and Canet-en-Roussillon.
